Activities in the Area
Copper Cat beer available at our restaurant (Wednesdays to Saturdays)
The Copper Cat is the local brewery and is situated inside the heritage building (it was recently re-opened after a 12-month break). There's nothing better than a cold beer on a hot day, and a variety of beers and ales are always available on tap. Come and enjoy a selection of malty or hoppy deliciousness on the front porch where one can watch the horses grazing across the street.
Mountain and gravel bike trails – some of the best in South Africa
Various well-maintained mountain bike trails offer cyclists a variety of adventures, catering for both those who want an easy ride and avid enthusiasts who want to push their limits.
Boesmanskloof and hiking trails
Greyton is a hiker’s paradise with various routes, beautiful streams, pools and waterfalls to swim in. The view from both Knietjieshoogte and the Zig-zag trail are spectacular and well worth the effort. For those who are fit and seek a challenge, the Boesmanskloof hike to McGregor is spectacular.
Genadendal historical village
Genadendal has a rich spiritual history and was the first mission station in South Africa (1737). Most of the buildings have been preserved and include an operational mill.
Museum tours are available from Mondays to Saturdays.
Saturday Market and shops
Visit the market in Main Road every Saturday morning for fresh produce, homemade treats, baked goods and a variety of gifts. Try new and exciting flavour combinations at Von Geuseau Chocolates, or shop for beautiful antiques, whether original or restored. Gretyon abounds with amazing works of art and no trip is complete without a visit to at least one of the galleries.
Wine Tasting
Drop in at Lismore Wines for a superb wine tasting, or book a guided tour with wine tasting at Delphin Wine Estate, located 10km outside the village.
